20,000 cellular subscribers in Pakistan seek operator change

Pakistan Telecom Authority Chairman - Telecom Magazine for UAE Pakistan Middle East GulfChairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Maj. Gen (R) Shahzada Alam Malik revealed in a seminar that 20,000 cellular subscribers have requested to change their company. He said that Mobile Number Portability (MNP) has been introduced in Pakistani market to bring further competition and to improve the quality of service in cellular mobile sector. He said this while speaking at a seminar on “Business Intelligence Solutions for Telecom Industry” organized by SAS Pakistan.

Chairman PTA said that there is fierce competition in mobile phone sector and it is not easy to retain the consumers. Companies will have to work hard so that their consumers don’t leave them. He said that users are getting benefit of the healthy competition.

Chairman PTA said that so far, more than 10 thousand subscribers have availed the MNP facility while 20 thousand have already posted their requests for shifting their cellphone numbers along with the code from one operator to another.

He said that MNP database has been established in Islamabad which hosts the data of all ported out and ported in numbers. He said that MNP is working successfully and now it is up to the consumers to avail this service if they are not satisfied with their present operator.

On this occasion Mazhar Hussain, Country Manager SAS said that telecom sector of Pakistan is growing fast and foreign investment is pouring in. He also appreciated the role of PTA in this regard. On this occasion Mr. Ken King, AugustineVaz and Shahid Saeed made presentations.
